Bhopal: Governor Mangubhai Patel has said that in global competition, distance education is an important means of lifelong education along with earning livelihood. It is a simple and easy medium to deliver education to the extremely backward, remote areas of the society, Divyangjan, domestic, working men and women and youth. Governor Patel was addressing the seventh convocation of Raja Bhoj (Open) University on Tuesday. Higher Education, AYUSH and Technical Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar was also present in the ceremony held at Kushabhau Thakre International Auditorium, Bhopal.
Governor Mangubhai Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a commendable initiative in the National Education Policy for quality education of socially and economically backward students. It is important that distance education strengthens the efforts to provide social services and protect the rights of the deprived sections.
Governor Mangubhai Patel said that the degree holder students should never forget the contribution of their parents and teachers. Always be grateful for their sacrifice and efforts. He said that today the students have crossed the first step of achieving their goals and realizsing their dreams through distance education. Now move forward to achieve success in life with this knowledge and skills. Governor Patel said that along with evaluating and improving your growth, identify your capabilities. Make continuous efforts with discipline and time management. Make continuous efforts without losing self-confidence, because victory is always achieved by those who make efforts.
The initiative of giving diploma in Ramcharit Manas and Gita is commendable
Governor Mangubhai Patel said that the initiative of the University to provide diploma in social development and Bhagwat Gita from Ramcharit Manas is very commendable. He appreciated the orientation efforts being made by the University in rural areas for sickle cell anaemia awareness. Patel said that in this fast changing world, along with high standard courses, universities should prepare quality study material by subject experts. The relevance of the course should also be reviewed continuously. Design your programmes according to skill upgradation and future needs. Also provide a platform for easy exchange of knowledge and skills to the students.
Eminent personalities honored with honorary degrees
In the convocation ceremony, Governor Mangubhai Patel honored Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha Institute's Chancellor Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Physicist of International Center for Theoretical Physics Dr. Atish pad Dabholkar, Atomic Energy Education Society BARC's Dr. J.V. Yakhmi, IIT Chennai's Professor Padma Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala and Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Omprakash Sharma with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.). Similarly, educationist and former Vice Chancellor (Indira Gandhi National Open University) Prof. Nageshwar Rao was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Distance Education (D.D.E.). Governor Patel conferred Raja Bhoj Excellence Medal to the students of the university and degrees to the conferred students.
In his address, Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar mentioned the works of the learned and glorious King Bhoj for the spread of education, water conservation and welfare of the people. He told the students to take inspiration from the personality and deeds of Raja Bhoj. Become a part of the creation of a developed India by cooperating in the works of Indian philosophy, glorious knowledge tradition and environmental protection. The programme was also addressed by Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha Institute Chancellor Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar and physicist Dr. Atish pad Dabholkar.
Governor Mangubhai Patel was welcomed by presenting a Tulsi sapling. He was felicitated with a shawl, shrifal and a memento. Governor Patel released the souvenir of the university. The welcome address was given by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sanjay Tiwari. Registrar Dr. Sushil Manderia conducted the proceedings of the convocation and expressed his gratitude. Senior officials, Vice Chancellors of various universities, Heads of various faculties of Bhoj Open University, conferred students and their parents were also present in the convocation.
