Now, passport verification process to be hassle-free
21 November 2014
Haldwani,21/November/2014 (ITNN)>>>> In a move that will enable passport seekers to upload documents required for police verification online and will save both time & energy, the passport office in Dehradun on Wednesday implemented the district police headquarters model (DPHQ model) across the state.

Implementation of this model is going to make sure that there aren't any delays from the passport office's end. Following the verification, the police will upload a report and forward it to the passport office. Officials said several meetings were held before arriving at the decision, according to a report published in an english news paper.

In June this year, the model was introduced in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar and Nainital as a pilot project, but now it has been extended to all 13 districts of the state. As per the model, applicants from anywhere in Uttarakhand will now have the option of sending their documents directly to police headquarters of their respective districts.

"Since there won't be physical movement of files from passport office to police stations, the verification process will be quick," said Vijay Shanker Pandey, regional passport officer, Dehradun. "Necessary training was also arranged by the passport department for police officers from all districts," added Pandey.

The office had recently organized a passport seva kendra in Nainital for the benefit of residents of Kumaon region. It has been decided that such events will now be held in different parts of the state very fortnight.

"At the time of commencement of passport seva kendra in Dehradun in 2012, the number of daily appointments was 220. It has now gone up to 410. There has been a growth of about 85% in two years," said Pandey.
