Indian Army gets 601 new officers after passing-out parade
A total of 601 cadets were inducted into the Indian army as officers in Uttarakhand's capital city Dehradun after a passing-out parade at the prestigious Indian Military Academy. Afghan Army Chief General Sher Mohammad Karimi reviewed the parade which was held on Drill Square in front of the historic Chetwood building amidst tight security.

Five killed as jeep falls into gorge
Five persons were killed and three others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Pauri district, police said today. The accident occurred near Dhumakot in the district late last evening, they said. All the five bodies have been recovered and the three injured have been admitted to a hospital in Kotdwar.

16 people killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand
Sixteeen people were killed and seventeen injured today when a bus in which they were travelling fell into a gorge in Tehri district of Uttarakhand. A total of 33 persons were on board the bus when it fell into a 300 ft deep gorge near Juyalgarh, Tehri superintendent of police Mukhtar Mohsin said.

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand in the wee hours today left 17 persons dead in separate incidents of cloudburst, house collapse and landslips in Pauri, Dehradun and Pithoragarh districts. The heavy rains, which are still continuing in most parts of the state including the state capital, also breached several roads cutting off nearly 250 residents of a village in Pauri district from the rest of the state.
